A lackluster January day in the Cedar Glades

I am ready for spring as soon as Christmas is over. I can handle the cold, but dreary and overcast days like today are no fun. Since I want to visit as many TN State Parks as a I can during 2024, I decided to explore 2 new trails at Cedars of Lebanon State Park. The butterfly trail marker was the only representation of spring I saw today, but both trails were enjoyable.
The Cedar Glade loop is .6 mile and contains educational signs about the Cedar Glades and the park history. The Cave Creek loop is a fully accessible trail with benches and picnic tables to enjoy on your journey. It looks brand new! The end of the trail (depending on your route) also provides access to an amazing overlook of Jackson Cave! This is very nice since it was previously difficult to see.

Next Time?
Of course there will be a next time. I have only hiked a few of the trails in this park so there are several more to go. But the park holds a lot of special memories. Long (long) ago summers at the pool. Spending hours stopping, starting and parking when trying to learn to drive a manual transmission. Frisbee golf! (I'm not any good, but it's a fun time.) Horseback riding or simply taking a leisurely drive. Cool afternoons on the playground or ballfield. Our daughter was married at the Lodge and the wedding was so beautiful! I love our park system and appreciate all the time, energy and effort that goes into preserving the space for everyone to enjoy. The accessible path with picnic tables adds a very nice touch to provide some sense of independance for those with some challenges. Until you or a loved one has been in that position, you can never fully appreciate how much of a difference it makes.
